France to Withdraw from Syria When Political Solution Is Es…

Paris, Jan 10 (Prensa Latina) Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian on Thursday said that France will withdraw their troops from Syria once a ”political solution” is established.
Speaking to France’s C-News television, the minister said that ‘there is a military present in Iraq, and we have a scanty present in Syria, accompanying the Americans.’

The minister admitted the French presence in Syria, contrary to the will of the government of Damascus, without the consent of the United Nations and against the international law.

Since the beginning of the conflict, Paris aligned itself with Washington in its stance towards Syria, betting on overthrowing President Bashar al Assad.

Drian welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump’s remarks to slow down the withdrawal of 2,000 American soldiers in Syria.

Trump unexpectedly announced in December that he will withdraw his troops from Syria, but then changed saying that this would be done at an adapted pace.
