Minimum Wage in Mexico Benefits Two Million Workers

28 de diciembre de 2018, 00:40Mexico, Dec 28 (Prensa Latina) The increase in the minimum wage that comes into effect on January 1 will benefit 2,76,894 workers, 5.7 percent of wage earners and 3.8 percent of the working population, Conasami reported.

The National Commission on Minimum Wages (Conasami) assured in a statement that the jobs of most temporary workers are personal services (24.2 percent), industrialists, artisans and assistants (23.2) and merchants (19.2).

Of these, 57.8 percent work full time in small enterprises that employ between one and five people.

According to the National Occupation and Employment Survey, the average age of full-time employees who receive a minimum wage is 35.6 years and they have an average educational level equivalent to 8.8 years. In addition, 57 percent are men and 42.1 percent are women.

In its statement, Conasami explained that the population to which the general minimum wage is set ‘is the workers who have a subordinate working relationship, who work for an employer for a full time and regulates their working relationship under Section A of the Federal Labor Law.
